PHL 390 - PII American Philosophy


(Perspectives II course) An introduction to classical American philosophy and those thinkers who between 1870 and 1940 developed a philosophy that is unique to the United States. The defining movement in classical American philosophy is called pragmatism. Course will evaluate the pragmatic conception of truth and how it relates to the notion of pure experience, the individual and the community, science, morality, loyalty, the transcendental, and education.
