ENGL 404 - Poet, Patriot, Heretic: Milton


This course studies John Milton’s radical challenges to the political, religious, and literary orthodoxies of his day, and his contribution to how we now think about marriage, censorship, ecology, terrorism, and other issues. Paradise Lost stands at the center of the course; other key texts include Milton’s sonnets, Areopagitica, and Samson Agonistes.
