ENGL 309 - The Invention of Modernity: Renaissance Literature Spurred on by a series of amazing discoveries and upheavals, Renaissance writers began to question long-held certainties about the self, society, and God. This course will examine ground-breaking English authors such as More, Spenser, and Marlowe alongside continental writers including Machiavelli, Montaigne, and Cervantes.
