ENGL.Q 140 - Identities

(Perspectives Enduring Questions) This course explores enduring questions about the concept of identities in select works of literature, investigating such questions as the following: How do literary texts reflect and create the categories/definitions of various identities and why? How can they reinforce and/or upset existing identity structures (such as social class, race, and/or gender)? What are the effects of socially accepted norms/categories/definitions for identity construction? As do other P(EQ) courses in Literature, this class develops student skills in close reading, literary analysis, and argumentation, while cultivating a lifetime practice of critical reading and literary understanding.
