PTR 525 - Patient/Client Management II


The use of physical agents is presented within the context of comprehensive patient management and outcomes assessment. Case studies will be utilized to elucidate these concepts. The student will learn physiological effects of energy transfer (thermal, electromagnetic, acoustic, mechanical, and electrical) on body tissues or systems. Interventions include the use of hot/cold agents, ultrasound, hydrotherapy, traction, compression, radiation, and electrical stimulation. Indications, contraindications, and precautions in their application will be covered. Applied exercise physiology principles and therapeutic exercise are incorporated into this course. Students learn to develop land-based and aquatic therapy programs that include exercise progression for various areas of the body.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of all prior required PT courses.
