INCH 380 - Construction of Meaning in Mathematics And Science

This course combines a study of the function, organization, and integration of the early childhood and childhood-level mathematics and science curricula with a survey of current teaching resources and research-based strategies to address the learning strengths and needs of diverse learners in mathematics and science. Pre-service teacher candidates will study the development of mathematical and science skills and concepts using the intuitive and inquiry methods, as per the national standards in mathematics and science. In addition, pre-service teacher candidates will design and implement learning units that address the New York State Common Core Learning Standards in mathematics and science. The integration of technology is an integral component of this course. Must be taken concurrently with INCH 390. Course is taught in an elementary school and 60 total hours of field work is required.

Course Codes: AFL. Prereq: INCH*310, INCH*320, EDU*080 Coreq: INCH*390. 4 hours/week of field work in site location in addition to class. Must be accepted in the Inclusive Early Childhood/Childhood Education major to register for this course. Allow for 30 minutes travel time from Nazareth College.
