SWK 383 - Social Work Methods I/Field Experience I

This four credit course is the first in a series of three social work practice courses. Students learn the social work generalist practitioner model and engage in evidence-based practice. The course introduces the NASW Code of Ethics and is focused on providing students with engagement and assessment knowledge, theory, and skills across micro, mezzo, and macro levels of practice. In order to integrate the knowledge, theory and practice skills introduced in Social Work Practice I, students are in a supervised field placement/experience six hours each week in a human services agency. Through classroom discussions, students are supported in their personal/professional development, in their professional use of self, and in their abilities to integrate theory and practice.
