SWK 309G - Human Rights/Social Justice It has been over sixty years since the development of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This course discusses the impact of this document on the global community; investigates the global interconnections of human rights and social and economic justice; examines social structures and issues that shape our environment, our lives and our world; and discusses historical and theoretical perspectives of human rights and social justice and its relationship to culture, diversity, oppression, and equality. The influence of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and their challenge of transforming the words of the Declaration and addressing the demands of international morality are explored. The role in becoming active participants through strategies promoting rights and justice both in our local and global communities are developed.
