RES 229G - PII Studies in the Qur’an


(Perspectives II, Global Course) This course is to introduce the Qur’an as a holy scripture, a word of God according to Muslims and its major themes in the contemporary context. How the manuscript came into being, was collected together, understanding the text, interpreting the text and why reading, and memorizing of the text is so significant in Islam? To make students understand the Qur’an, the course will cover variety of topics such as the concept of God, nature, anthropology, gender, prophecy, eschatology, theodicy, and issues of religious diversity.

Prereqs: PI in RES.
