HRM 329 - Labor Relations and Human Resource Law


This course explores the complex and ever-changing regulatory context within which the field of Human Resource Management operates. The history of the American labor movement and collective bargaining are components of this course. Issue of legal compliance, documentation and prevention of adverse legal action, and progressive policies concerning the spirit of actual legislation often dominate human resource professionals’ time and energy. This course examines the roles of HR professionals as experts on human resource legislation, educators of others in their organization and advocates for progressive policy creation. Since the reality of law happens in case interpretation, much use of situational analysis will accompany study of actual legislation. The course will also include specific discussion of the global implications of legal regulation and the history of the American Labor Movement.
