PSC 420 - PII US Social Policy in Comparative Perspective

(Perspectives II) This course examines three broad areas of U.S. social policy - health care, education, and income security - and compares them with policies of other advanced capitalist democracies.  In exploring how health care, education, and income security are provided in different countries, the course focuses on several related question.  Why do similar countries adopt different solutions to the same social problems?  Are we witnessing convergence or divergence in the way different nations structure their social policies?  What are the ultimate effects - in social, political, and human terms - of different approaches to social provision?
