LST 534 - Sport, Ethnicity, and Culture in American Society

The course examines the role and function of sport in the American national culture and ethos. It identifies social institutions and societal forces and factors that influenced the emergence and the unique development of sport as a social institution in American society. Conversely, the course also examines sport as a reflection of ethical, political, and economic imperatives that govern and define American society and how it is used by social institutions and society itself in creating an American identity.
