Admissions

General Information

While the Admissions Committee gives primary consideration to academic achievement and potential for collegiate success, talent in art, drama, music or co-curricular activities enhances a student’s application. Attending an information session, although not required is encouraged. This allows the applicant to view the campus and meet with an admissions counselor. Applicants may seek admission in either the fall (August) or the spring (January) semester.

Nazareth College provides students with three options when applying for admission as a freshman: Early Decision I,  Early Decision II, and Regular Decision. A binding commitment to Nazareth is required for students accepted under Early Decision I and Early Decision II. Nazareth College is a member of the Common Application which is available at www.commonapp.org.

A recommended course of study for freshman admission includes four years of English and Social Studies, three years of Mathematics, Science (two of which should be laboratory sciences), and a Foreign Language.

Special Admission Programs (HEOP/EXCEL)

The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program
The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) is an educational program approved by the New York State legislature that serves New York State residents. The HEOP program at Nazareth is jointly funded by the College and the New York State Education Department. HEOP provides a broad range of services to New York State residents who, because of academic and economic circumstances, would otherwise be unable to attend post-secondary non-public educational institutions.

Excel Program
The Excel Program is offered to facilitate access and success at Nazareth College, for  eligible students. The Excel Program provides a broad range of services to students who can benefit from additional support. Students are eligible to participate under similar criteria as HEOP students without the state residency and/or family income requirements. Students admitted to the Excel program are expected to adhere to the same policies and procedures of those enrolled in HEOP.

Young Scholars Program
The Young Scholars Program is an educational experience for high-achieving students that establishes a career path by promoting academic achievement, collaboration and leadership. Students selected to participate are identified as high achievers by teachers and administrators from the several schools who have established partnerships with Nazareth College. It is a bachelor degree program for young men and women who are seeking a challenging, yet supportive, college experience. For students interested in business careers, there is a separate three-year curriculum for Young Scholars that incorporates entrepreneurship and leadership.

The Young Scholars Program incorporates a total-year learning model to maximize opportunities for learning, research and internships. Students are expected to engage in their learning and preparation beyond a traditional fall and spring semester schedule, and spend part of their summers at Nazareth College.

The Young Scholars Program at Nazareth College is built on partnerships. Through both research and our insight, we know that relationships and partnerships are important ingredients in student success. The triangle of accountability, for success, exists between Nazareth College, partner High School Leadership, and the students. We commit to ensuring that communication between the three participants is constant and support.
